Reiki is a form of energy healing, involving the transfer of universal energy from the practitioner to the patient through hands-on or hands-off techniques. Reiki healing aims to balance the body’s energy, promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being. In this article, we will dive into the benefits of Reiki and its impact on overall health.
Before you scroll away, let me confess that I too had never heard of reiki before 2015, and nor would I have believed in it based on that explanation! But when I was truly unwell and desperate, I heard a story where this woman had a chronic back issue fixed after uncovering the emotional root, and with the allopathic model offering me nothing, I was sold on the idea of looking into ‘other’ causes.
I attended monthly reiki healing sessions with him from 2015-2019, and also attended many of his extra-curricular classes on topics like astrology, numerology (I called them my ‘magic classes’). With each session I did with him, my health and life improved dramatically. I then became a practitioner myself, and have offered reiki sessions to clients when we come up against a mental or emotional block.
Reiki operates on the fact that life energy flows through all living beings. When this energy is low or blocked, it can lead to physical or emotional imbalances. Practitioners use their hands to channel energy, intending to remove these blockages and restore balance. As a practitioner you can literally feel the heat in your hands as the energy comes through.
I used Reiki to work through emotional blocks and highlight things I was doing which were keeping me stuck in an endless loop of depression and anxiety, but it has many benefits, including;
Stress Reduction and Relaxation: Reiki can induce deep relaxation and feelings of being completely calm and relaxed. This helps reduce stress and its related symptoms, such as anxiety and tension.
Balancing Emotional States: Reiki can help release emotional blockages and promote mental clarity. This can lead to improved mood, reduced anxiety, and a sense of inner peace. You will likely feel lighter after a session.
Relieve Pain: Many people turn to Reiki to help manage pain. By enhancing the flow of energy, Reiki may help alleviate chronic pain, headaches, and discomfort associated with various conditions. Or, like in the story I heard when I first attended, it has the potential to heal it completely if you uncover the root cause.
Enhance Healing: Reiki supports the body’s natural healing processes. It can be used as a complementary therapy to conventional medical treatments, potentially speeding up recovery times and reducing side effects.
Improve Sleep: By promoting relaxation and reducing stress, Reiki can improve sleep quality. This can be particularly beneficial for those suffering from insomnia or other sleep disorders (and as you would know, without quality sleep, you can’t have quality health).
Increase Energy Levels: Regular Reiki sessions can help maintain balanced energy levels, leaving individuals feeling more vibrant and less fatigued. As you clear emotional blocks or unhook yourself from negative patterns, you have life energy flowing through you again.
Facilitate Spiritual Growth: Reiki can facilitate a deeper connection to oneself and the universe. Many practitioners and recipients of Reiki report heightened spiritual awareness and a stronger sense of purpose. I found this a huge benefit for myself and many women I worked with at the time.
A typical Reiki session lasts between 30-60 minutes. During the session, you lie down fully clothed while the practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above specific points on the body. The practitioner then channels the healing energy and works to balance energy flow. It can feel warm, tingly, or soothing as the reiki healing is performed.
Sessions can involve contact or no contact, and can also be performed by distance (seems odd, but it’s actually really powerful by distance as the messages come through even clearer!).
