I am on a mission to educate, inspire women to overcome health challenges (even if it seems impossible!) and step into the life of their dreams
If you want to change your life on a deep level, you need to reprogram your subconscious. If you don’t you end up trapped in a cycle of doing the exact same thing over and over again, whether or not it is working for you.
Note that psychologists and psychotherapists are highly trained in working through the layers of your mind and behaviour with you. It’s always recommended to do any of this kind of work with professional supervision, but this is not possible for everyone, I know! So here are my favourite methods.
The subconscious mind is (put very simply) what goes on without your conscious awareness, it makes up for approximately 95% of your mental processes. Your whole body operates unconsciously, and this is including your thoughts and behaviours.
When you’re young, programs are laid down in accordance with your environment. So, you may have habits and behaviours of your parents despite not wanting them, including addictions, emotional issues, and so on.
Additionally, you might ‘cast aside’ your most amazingly golden aspects, because they were not celebrated. So when you reprogram your subconscious in a positive way, you can end up unlocking your gifts and talents, too.
Meditation: If you learn how to meditate, you can open a doorway to the subconscious. You can learn to hold space for memories, stories and beliefs that you currently hold, and over time you can change them.
PSYCH-K: This is similar to neuro-linguisitc programming (NLP), but I feel it’s more effective. It’s a simple process of identifying a limiting belief (one that is not serving you and your goals), and creating a new, empowering belief in it’s place. I practice PSYCH-K, and can absolutely support you in reprogramming your beliefs this way.
Hypnotherapy: A hypnotherapist can guide you into your subconscious, and he/she will support you in instilling new, empowering and aligned beliefs and ideas directly into your subconscious mind.
Plant Medicine: Plant medicines interact directly with your subconscious, pulling up the material that is unresolved so you can be with it and learn more about yourself on a deep level. Psilocybin is particularly powerful for this, but needs to be done with a psychologist in controlled environment (it’s currently legal in some instances).
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT): This involves tapping particular areas of the face and body whilst repeating a powerful phrase, reprogramming the subconscious.
Parts Work: Somatic parts work, or Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy involves identifying ‘parts’ of ourselves that are stuck in old patterns. Eg, you may have a ‘part’ that likes to eat food when stressed, and until you can be with that part, and hold space for him/her, they will continue with the same old pattern. This is my favourite method for reprogramming, as we aren’t trying to ‘fix’ anything, but more-so be with what is there, appreciate its role in our mental and emotional wellbeing, and show them another way to be.
Inner Child Work: This is similar to parts work, acknowledging there is a little child in all of us who is maladapted in our adult self. The thing to note here is we don’t have one inner child, we have many.
Reparenting: This is again very similar to somatic parts and inner child work, where we address these childlike habits and behaviours as if they are little beings within us, and offer them the comfort and advice they never received as a child.
Somatic Experiencing: You need a highly qualified practitioner for this, but it allows you to really engage with your habits and behaviours on a deeper level in the body, and ‘reprogram’ them by holding space.
Shadow Work: This is anything that engages your subconscious, and one of my favourites as shadow work acknowledges not only that we are somewhat flawed, but also that we may have discarded aspects of ourselves that would have us more aligned with our true self.
Eg, maybe as a child you wanted to be a journalist, but your parents wanted you to be a lawyer. So you repressed that side of you to please them, and now you feel like something is ‘missing’ within you. It is common for creative talents and gifts to be discarded, too.
In Magical Mindset, I go over the shadow, and support clients to uncover their true self through guided meditation practices and journalling activities.
You can do it at home, you just need the right guidance! It’s about aligning your ideas about how you want things to be, and connecting it with an emotion which has the power to make it manifest. In order to find the emotion, you need to ensure that this goal of yours is intrinsic, and meaningful to you on a deeper level. Magical Mindset is really supportive of that.
I also have a program called Mindset Mastery, which takes you through the subconscious programming process step by step. You can access that program here;
I hope that’s opened your mind and offered hope that lasting change is possible!
